Dat de film van Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them eraan komt is hopelijk bij niemand ontgaan. Voor degenen die het nog niet weten: het komt uit in november.
Toen ik dus met een biebpas in de bibliotheek was en dit boek zag liggen moest ik het lenen, om mij alvast voor te bereiden op de film. O, en als je het nog niet wist: op dat moment had ik van de Hogwarts Library-serie alleen nog maar The Tales of Beedle the Bard gezien. Dus ja... Ik loop nog wat achter met Quidditch Through the Ages.

Fantastic Beasts is meer een non-fictie boek, maar dan een non-fictie fictie boek. Huh? Het zit zo: het is voor de wereld van Harry Potter non-fictie, maar voor ons is het natuurlijk hartstikke fictie. Nou ja, voor sommige niet-muggles niet...

Ik zou niet zeggen dat dit boek echt leuk was, want er gebeurt niet echt iets in het verhaal. Er was niet eens een verhaal! Voor de duidelijkheid: dit boek is meer een encyclopedie. Er staat dan bijvoorbeeld Feniks en dan daaronder informatie over de Feniks, en dan gaat het verder naar het volgende dier.
Er komen een aantal beesten voor die alleen maar voorkomen in Harry Potter, dus het was dan wel fijn om erover te lezen, want die zijn echt Harry Potter-rig.

Een fijne toevoeging waren de notities van Ron, Hermione en Harry tussen de tekst door, en die zorgden ervoor dat ik moest lachen. Dat was misschien ook de reden waarom ik verder bleef lezen. Want zonder... dan zat er niet echt iets leuks in het verhaal, behalve wat non-fictie-fictie.

Ik raad Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them vooral aan aan Harry Potter-fans. Ben je geen fan? Dan is het ook niet zo nodig om dit boek te lezen. Het is gewoon een leuke toevoeging aan Harry's wereld. O, en ik moet erbij zeggen dat je dit boek ook niet per se hoeft te lezen als je de film wilt zien, want het enige wat nuttig aan dit boek is is het eerste hoofdstuk, bij het stukje over de schrijver (Newt, dus). Maar daar is het enige nuttige weer van dat je weet wie zijn vrouw is. Meer niet.
